Reaction to Fire versus Fire Resistance

A reaction-to-fire class and a fire resistance classification come from different machines and answer different questions. Written into one clause, they let a supplier evidence half a facade and call it compliant.

Facade Cavity Barriers: 2 opposite jobs

A ventilated facade needs a continuous cavity for airflow. That same cavity is a continuous chimney for fire. Resolving the contradiction is the whole job of an open-state cavity barrier.

Rated for 120 minutes of what?

The most common passive fire protection enquiry names a duration and stops there. A number with no performance criterion behind it isn’t a specification.

What Actually Goes Where in Service Penetration Firestopping?

Walk onto any active site and you will find the same scene at every wall and floor: pipes, cables, ducts and conduits pushed through openings.

Fire Retardant and Fire Resistance Are Not the Same Thing

They appear in the same product catalogues. They are sometimes used interchangeably in specifications. But fire retardant and fire resistance describe fundamentally different material behaviours.

Passive Fire Protection in India

While active systems like sprinklers and detection are vital, Passive Fire Protection (PFP) forms the foundation of any effective fire safety strategy. Passive fire protection buys critical time. Time to evacuate. Time for firefighters to respond. Time to prevent structural collapse and catastrophic losses.
